Bridging the Gap: A Decade of Knowledge in One Freely Accessible GuideÂ
In our last post, we introduced the One Guide. One Goal. campaign—a grassroots effort to raise $500,000 to distribute the Bateman Horne Center’s (BHC) Clinical Care Guide to healthcare professionals around the world. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it here: One Guide. One Goal, A Campaign to Change Knowledge to Care.
When a patient walks into a clinic with symptoms of ME/CFS or Long COVID, often the outcome is confusion, dismissal, or worse—no diagnosis at all. This is not because providers don’t care. It is because many healthcare professionals have not had the opportunity to receive training on how to recognize or treat these complex, post-infectious conditions. Â
BHC is working to change that.Â
The Gap Is Real—and Need is GrowingÂ
You have likely heard us mention the startling results of the NIH-funded study, co-led by BHC’s Suzanne Vernon, PhD, that 1 in 22 adults who had COVID-19 now meet the diagnostic criteria for ME/CFS. Nearly 1 in 4 experience post-exertional malaise (PEM)—a hallmark symptom—and 89% also meet the criteria for Long COVID.Â
These are urgent numbers. Â
One Guide. One Goal. Many Lives Changed.Â
The Clinical Care Guide distills more than a decade of BHC’s clinical experience, research, and medical education into one practical, evidence-informed resource. It includes:Â
- Diagnostic guidance aligned with current consensus criteria and symptom presentation
- Management strategies for core features and related comorbiditiesÂ
- Care planning guidance emphasizing person-centered approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Special sections on pediatric care, severe illness, caregiver support, and disability documentation
Most importantly, it is free.Â
From a Small Clinic to a Global MovementÂ
The Clinical Care Guide was born out of necessity—built by an interdisciplinary team of experts committed to bridging the divide between what patients need and what providers know.Â
But distributing the guide globally takes support from people like you.Â
That’s why we launched the One Guide. One Goal. campaign—to raise $500,000 by August 31, one $5 donation at a time.Â
Why This Isn’t Just a GuideÂ
This is more than a resource. It’s about changing the medical conversation.Â
By providing providers with a free, trusted, and practical reference, we’re helping to shift the standard of care for millions of people living with ME/CFS, Long COVID, and related conditions.Â
You Can Help Close the GapÂ
If you’ve lived through the experience of being misunderstood, or you’ve seen someone you love struggle to find answers, you understand the importance of sharing BHC’s evidence-informed knowledge of ME/CFS, Long COVID and other infection-associated chronic conditions.Â
Let’s bridge the provider gap together—
one guide, one provider, one patient at a time.
SUPPORT ONE GUIDE. ONE GOAL.Â
