A Roadmap to Better Care:
Clinical Care Guide for ME/CFS, Long COVID &
Infection-Associated Chronic Conditions

Introducing the Clinical Care Guide for ME/CFS, Long COVID & Infection-Associated Chronic Conditions

For individuals living with ME/CFS, Long COVID, and other infection-associated chronic conditions (IACCs), the journey to getting quality care is often long and overwhelming. Many with lived experience spend years seeking answers and medical guidance.

That’s why we created the Clinical Care Guide for Managing ME/CFS, Long COVID, and IACCs.

This guide is a practical, step-by-step resource developed by our clinical team in partnership with interdisciplinary experts and those with lived experience. It’s designed to support both healthcare providers and the patient community—bridging the gap between clinical practice and patient needs.

Who the Guide Is For

Whether you’re a medical professional, a patient, a caregiver, or an advocate, this guide was created with you in mind. It can help clinicians feel more confident treating complex, multisystem conditions, and it can help patients become an integral part of their care.

What’s Inside

Developed by Bateman Horne Center clinicians and partners with deep experience in ME/CFS and Long COVID, the guide provides:

  • Tools to assess impairment and orthostatic intolerance, including the Good Day/Bad Day Questionnaire and the 10-Minute NASA Lean Test
  • Evidence-informed management approaches for PEM, cognitive impairment, MCAS, dysautonomia, pain, etc.
  • Support for disability documentation and guidance on school and workplace accommodations
  • Special considerations for pediatric and severely affected patients
  • Input from allied health professionals—physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and behavioral health—for whole-person care

Each chapter is written with tools and compassion, offering evidence-informed guidance without losing sight of patient-centered care.

Why It Matters

Post-infectious conditions are not rare—and they’re not going away. As millions continue to navigate life with ME/CFS and Long COVID, the need for accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based care has never been greater. At the same time, many providers are facing their own challenges: limited training, time constraints, and complex cases that don’t fit neatly into standard protocols.

The Clinical Care Guide meets this moment by offering a shared foundation—one that supports informed clinical decisions, meaningful communication, and better outcomes for patients and providers alike.
