Join us for the first Coffee with a Clinician as we dive into Chapter 1 of the Clinical Care Guide.
Topics to be addressed:
- Challenges patients and clinicians face and what that means for improving patient care.
- Building a strong, team-based relationship that respects patients’ expertise and optimizes providers’ guidance.
- How patients and clinicians can structure appointments, use a “trial and pivot” approach, set realistic goals, and offer tips for patients to communicate priorities effectively.
About Coffee with a Clinician
- Each month, clinicians will walk us through a chapter of the Clinical Care Guide or host an “Ask Me Anything” session, answering questions submitted ahead of time by the community.
- Each session will be recorded and shared.
- The series is free to attend, with an optional $5 donation to help support the BHC education and outreach programs.

Lucinda Bateman, MD, is a renowned clinician, researcher, and educator. Her Johns Hopkins University Medical School training instilled an approach to care that she has employed throughout her career – the patient comes first and the unknown or unexplained does not equate to a lack of proper and compassionate care. Since starting her own practice in 2000, she has served on six boards or committees, been the principal investigator for 45 studies, authored/coauthored 40 journal articles, served as adjunct instructor and adjunct assistant professor in the University of Utah Departments of Preventative Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Anesthesiology, and lectured around the world.
