“Coffee” with a Clinician: Assessing Impaired Function (Clinical Evaluation)

This “Coffee” with a Clinician session focuses on Chapter 3 of the Clinical Care Guide, Assessing Impaired Function (Clinical Evaluation), with particular attention to cognitive impairment. Our panelists represent diverse clinical, personal, and professional backgrounds and have made meaningful contributions toward advancing BHC’s medical education goals.
“Functional impairment” is a medical term used to describe how much a condition interferes with daily life. ME/CFS and Long COVID involve a wide range of symptoms and levels of severity that often fluctuate over time. Accurately assessing an individual’s functional impairment is a key part of creating a care plan aimed at improving quality of life. This discussion will focus on clinical assessment tools, commonly used terminology, and practical ways to accurately communicate impairment.
